Description

D.L. George and Sons Manufacturing Company is seeking an Estimator with prior estimating experience in a machine shop.

The Manufacturing Estimator prepares estimates by analyzing Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements. Works from prints or customer supplied information to determine order of operations, material requirements, employee resources, and costs associated with each.

The Estimator interacts with customers and plant representatives as needed to accomplish timely cost/project estimates.

Estimator Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering prints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Identifies labor, material, and lead time requirements by studying proposals, prints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and lead time requirements.
  • Estimate all labor costs associated for the job by using either existing standards, time studies or consulting with shop supervisors.
  • Review job costs to validate accurate estimates.
  • Estimate all materials required for a job by either established pricing standards or by contacting selected vendors for pricing or by reviewing past history.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Occasionally seek new vendors for unique materials or services.

Estimator Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a machine shop is a plus.
  • Prior estimating experience in a machine shop preferred.
  • Knowledge of related machines uses and capabilities. For example: Doosan Mill, Haas, Mazak, MacTurn, Bridgeport Mill Lathe or Orion.
  • Ability to read and understand print, tolerances, and interpret specifications.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with vendors and customers.
  • Must be able to communicate with Department Supervisors regarding non-standard job reviews.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Background in machining and welding preferred.
  • Knowledge of Global Shop preferred.
